KRONAN represents 286 years of heritage and unbroken traditional beverage history. From when the Swedish East India company in September 1733 brought the first 11 barrels of the Batavia Arrack (pot-stilled rum) from Java to Sweden to today this classic Rum based liqueur have been enjoyed in Sweden and abroad. Initially served straight up, over ice (chilled) with cigars or from the late 1800’s in cocktails.
When “Swedish Punsch” as it's classified as, emigrated from Sweden to Uk and the US it became immediately a common ingredient in numerous of classic cocktails. To order a Dr. Cocktail at the Waldorf Astoria, The Rainbow Room in NY or browsing through the cocktail list (and book *) at the Savoy in London was a rule rather than an exception. Unfortunately, due to the second world war the import stopped and KRONAN was the first brand to be introduced back into the US market in 2011.
Today you find KRONAN in numerous classic an modern cocktails.
To quickly describe KRONAN…
KRONAN is a blend of selected double pot-stilled rum from the East and West Indies—From the Island of Java in Indonesia (Batavia Arrack) and from Jamaica and Guyana, in the Caribbean.
What makes the difference in both nose and taste is in the fermentation process of the sugarcane molasses used to make the Batavia Arrack, the local red rice of Java, that is only part of the yeast used and together with the aging/storage in open teak wood vats creates this unique character.
Balanced with the intriguing rum from Port Mourants, Guyana, green wood stills, aromatic and complexed, and the Jamaican Rum smooth and inviting, lends to the unique characters found in KRONAN.
The nose has “funky” rum characters of smokiness, toffee, leather and molasses. The liqueur has a full-bodied, lingering taste with exceptional depth.
