The longest-aged offering to date from one of America's prized producers of rye whiskey, the 18 year is a blend of 79% rye, 15% malted rye, and 6% malted barley. The whiskey is aged entirely in virgin oak, and is bottled at 92 proof. The fraction of malted rye lends floral, earthy notes to the otherwise punchy rye, giving this nose the complexity of grated nutmeg, toasted oak, red apple, bramble, lemon verbena, and vanilla-rubbed demerara sugar. The palate is elegant and supple, with fine-textured spice, fresh apple and berry notes, pressed white flowers, and delicate notes of vanilla throughout the long, layered finish. A singular offering from one of the true greats, it makes for an exceptional gift or a beautiful study in rye.
